Melinda Manaut, center, enjoyed a gourmet lunch with Norma West, left, Pauline Cutter, Patricia Case and Jeanie McInerny after attending a beach-side preview of the Gucci "Women's Cruise Collection 2008" at Kahala Resort and Spa on Friday. Manaut, a die-hard fan of the Boston Red Sox, had been planning to watch the playoffs that afternoon but decided the Gucci fashion show took precedence.

Tiana Torii, left, and her husband, Nobuhide, shared their impressions of the new Gucci designs with Kristen Chan, Stephanie Johnson, Wanda Watumull and Stacey Hee. The ever-fashionable Tiana and Nobuhide color-coordinated for the event; he wore eye-catching silver metallic shoes that echoed the color theme established by her dress.

Eric Eugene Kamakahia'ai Chandler, left, was a gracious host Friday at an intimate reception honoring New York couture designer Michael Kaye, center, in the offices of 2 Couture. Chanel Wise, Miss Hawaii USA 2007, second from left, Michelle Radovan and Leo Williams were among guests who enjoyed champagne, a lavish local-style buffet and Kaye's entertaining stories about his experiences in Canada, Hawaii and New York. Kaye said that even as a Canadian teenager, he preferred designing clothes to watching hockey games.

China West, left, Miss Teen Aloha Tower 2007, attended the 2 Couture party with her mother, Kau'i Alapa. West's title win at the Aloha Tower in May earned her the opportunity to compete in the Miss Hawaii Teen USA pageant in December.

Guest "chef" Rod Muramatsu was assisted by Serena Karnagy, Miss Hawaii Teen USA 2007, as he cooked waffle hot dogs beside a real-life airplane fuselage in the 2 Couture office. Karnagy says she enjoys her hectic schedule balancing the academic demands of high school with the responsibilities of her reign.
