Jenkins, Keith top OIA
Bryce Jenkins and Kristin Ali Keith posted the top times among Oahu Interscholastic Association runners at the OIA Western Division Championships at Waialua High School yesterday.
Jenkins, a junior, led a top-five sweep by Leilehua runners on the boys side, finishing the 3-mile course in 16:32.92. Jenkins was followed by teammates Paul Williams (16:49.12), Juan Miguel Silva (17:06.60), Alan Akagi (17:10.29), and Jon Chun (17:25.68).
On the girls side, Keith, a Mililani sophomore, finished the 3-mile course in 19:37.93, followed by Pearl City's Dayna Domingo, who finished at 19:54.53.
Leilehua ran away with first in both the boys and girls team standings.
Dawnons Vorderbruegge of Kaiser topped the boys in the OIA Eastern Division Championships at Kailua High School, clocking in at 16:38.38. Kailua's Kensuke Taylor (16:43.60) and Craig Kandler (17:24.46) rounded out the top three.
Castle took boys team honors, followed by Roosevelt and Moanalua.
Kahuku's Keilani Wasson took the OIA East girls honors, completing the course in 20:38.86. A trio of Roosevelt runners followed, led by Nicole Bae, who finished in 20:56.37.
Crystal Fujimoto (21:02.45) and Kelsie Sugahara (21:08.06) also helped the Rough Rider girls take the team title.
The OIA Championships take place on Oct. 27, with the Honolulu Marathon HHSAA state cross country championships scheduled for Nov. 2 at the Kapalua Village Golf Course on Maui.
