Hawaii schedule complete
The Hawaii football schedule for 2008 is set, UH athletic director Herman Frazier said yesterday.
The final regular-season game will be Dec. 6 at Aloha Stadium against a school from a BCS conference, following a Nov. 29 home game against Washington State, the AD said.
Frazier also said he has come to agreement with a Division I-AA team to play at Aloha Stadium on Sept. 6, in between road games at Florida and Oregon State.
He declined to name the teams.
"I know who the teams are and I've released all the other teams that I was talking to. We expect to do the announcement soon," Frazier said.
Frazier expressed relief yesterday that the schedule is complete.
"I don't want to go through the same thing anymore. It's done," he said. " '08 is done! OK? '08 is done!"
Frazier has endured intense criticism from some UH fans for a 2007 schedule that has only 12 regular-season games (one less than allowed) and includes two Division I-AA teams.
The criticism includes signs at home games calling for his firing.
"I don't pay attention to that. I don't know they're there, I don't look at them," Frazier said. "I've been in collegiate athletics 29 years. There's always going to be critics no matter what you do."
UH has four of five nonconference games scheduled for 2009: at Washington State (Sept. 12) and UNLV (Sept. 19) and home against Navy (Sept. 5) and Wisconsin (Nov. 28). There was a possibility that Navy might pull out of that game.
"Navy had a problem with a game after ours, but that's been solved," Frazier said.
