CHILD OF THE CORNDENNIS ODA / DODA@STARBULLETIN.COM
The University of Hawaii at Manoa College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources hosted the 19th annual Waimanalo Plant Science Field Day yesterday, featuring field displays, booths on Hawaii's agriculture research and tours and discussions led by faculty, staff and students. A big draw was the corn demonstration, where participants could pick and sample sweet corn in the field uncooked (if they didn't want to bring it home and cook it). Here, 3-year-old Lily Shimabuku is shadowed by cornstalks as she nibbles on an ear of corn just after picking it. Her grandmother Laura Bennett said it was her third ear of the day.
