Services set for ex-mayor of Kauai

Visitation will be held 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Koloa, Kauai, for former Mayor Eduardo E. Malapit.

Malapit, 74, of Poipu and Lihue, died Aug. 27 in Wilcox Memorial Hospital.

Besides Kauai County mayor, Malapit also served as Kauai County prosecuting attorney, Kauai County councilman, state Board of Labor and Industrial Relations chairman, governor's liaison for Kauai, part-time magistrate and attorney in private practice.

He was born on Kauai. He is survived by wife Elizabeth; sons Kevin, Lon, Kent and Lyle; brothers William, Mark, Earl and Manuel; sisters Julia Smith and Aurora Lo; and four grandchildren.

A private burial will follow the visitation.
