Mentoring program is given $10,000
Island Insurance Foundation donated $10,000 to the nonprofit
Kids at Risk Mentoring Program Hawaii, which is working with 57 schools and 4,868 students.

Goodwill Industries of Hawaii received $25,000 from Hawaiian Telcom to fund computer training room equipment at the agency's Ohana Career and Learning Center project in Leeward Oahu.

Easter Seals Hawaii received grants from the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation Inc. and the Friends of Hawaii Charities that will support new programs and services for children and adults with autism spectrum disorder. The Weinberg Foundation awarded $150,000 to expand support services, and the Friends group gave $5,000 to conduct the first Family Autism Camp.

Three Hawaii Pacific University students received scholarships for their studies in Japan. They are Andrew Abordonado of Honolulu, a Roosevelt High School graduate, who was awarded $7,000 from the Freeman Foundation for the 2007-2008 school year; Amy Saccone of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., $5,000 from the Freeman Foundation for the 2007 spring semester; and Kennethlee Jimenez of LaGrange, N.Y., $5,000 from the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship for 2007 to 2008.
