'Birthday Bash 17'
PRIME-TIME WARRIORS:JOHN BERGER / JBERGER@STARBULLETIN.COMThe second night of KCCN/FM100's two-night "Birthday Bash 17" at the Waikiki Shell was "prime time" as the Mana'o Company took on the four original members of Na Wai Ho'olu'u O Ke Anuenue in a musical "Battle of the Sexes" on July 28. The guys rocked the crowd with their early Jawaiian hits, "Drop Baby Drop"/ "Who Loves You Pretty Baby" and "96 Degrees in the Shade." Na Wai played Polynesian roots music reminiscent of their first album before Lina Girl Langi stepped out front to thrill the fans with "Girlie Girlie." Mana'o Company members Eric Ho, left, Salaam Tillman, Jan Luna, Sean Na'auao, front, Kaulana Pakele and Danny Kennedy celebrated backstage afterward with Lina Girl, in the back row, Delia Ulima-Parker, Bella Finau and Luisa Finau. READY FOR THE BEACH:JOHN BERGER / JBERGER@STARBULLETIN.COMBeach 5 members Sani Apuakehau, third from left, and Christian Yrizarry partied with Dana Stoddard, left, Michel Arakaki and Shannon Stoddard after giving the crowd a taste of their new group's music. "When we were gigging as Ho'onu'a, we had nine people, so it was hard to do gigs (and) hard to travel. ... Now we've got, in my opinion, equally as large a sound with five guys," Yrizarry said.
