Offensive line takes shape
If Hawaii is to match or surpass its record-setting offensive explosion of 2006 this fall, the Warriors must rebuild a front line that loses three starters who were good enough to make it to NFL camps.
Coach June Jones has answered one key question by deciding that last year's starter at right guard, John Estes, will open the preseason next month at center.
The other returning starter, Hercules Satele, will remain at left guard.
"We're rebuilding, but I think we'll be fine," Satele said. "Not too long ago John and I were the question marks. Now we have to be the leaders."
Competition will be tough at Estes' vacated right guard position, with Aaron Kia, Laupepa Letuli, Larry Sauafea and Clarence Tuioti-Mariner among the potential starters. Keith Ah-Soon and Keoni Steinhoff will start camp atop the depth chart at the tackles, Jones said.
In other UH football news, the Warriors have offered scholarships to two more local high school standouts who will be seniors this fall, and a CD promoting quarterback Colt Brennan for the Heisman Trophy is nearly completed.
