Why search husband if he's not a suspect?

Political correctness is running amok. In the disappearance of a missing 26-year-old, pregnant Ohio woman, the "suspect" who is not a suspect is a police officer and is considered a person of interest. This person of interest is not a "suspect," but the police suspect him enough to get a warrant to search his house and car, take a DNA swab, check his cellphone records, and investigate him more thoroughly than they should rightfully be investigating a person who is not a "suspect."

Rail will contribute to homeless problem

Robin Hood-in-reverse is what Honolulu's rail project is about -- taking from poor and common folks, giving to the rich.

Wealthy buyers of high end real estate projects planned for Kapolei and other transit-oriented developments, stand to benefit from tax credits, exemptions, abatements and direct subsidies. In Portland and other TOD locales, tax gimmicks have been mostly hidden and untraceable.

To sell a budget-busting rail project, the mayor chides people to walk, bike, drive one car less per family, stay home and play in the neighborhood. But taking longer to get where you want to go is impractical when you're working two or three jobs to make ends meet.

Home ownership in Hawaii is rated second lowest in the country (after Washington, D.C.). The Wall Street Journal reported that our homeless problem is due to housing rents being the steepest of any state and scarcity of public housing.

Socially engineered out of home and car ownership -- is that what Hawaii's citizens get for paying the highest tax increase in Hawaii history, overall highest tax rates and high cost of living?

Ticket bad drivers, not pedestrians

The danger of our roads in Honolulu, and much of Oahu, is bad. As a frequent pedestrian (I walk an average of 4 miles a day), I see many drivers who seem to be rushing, not paying attention and endangering the precious bodies of us walkers. How many elderly people have been run over and killed on Oahu and the rest of the state?

Police need to ticket reckless drivers and jail them if necessary. Lately the Honolulu Police Department has been concentrating its efforts on ticketing jaywalkers on Hotel Street in Chinatown. It's close to a $100 fine. The drivers are messing up more than the pedestrians.

When I rode bicycles for years, it was equally dangerous; drivers making turns and not looking both ways. Too many drivers are not cautious. If one hits a person and it is their fault, isn't it vehicular manslaughter?

Drivers, be careful! Pedestrians always have the right of way. That is the law.

Accused killer stopped being a boy long ago

The 15-year-old accused murderer of Karen Ertell (Star-Bulletin, May 26) should be tried as an adult offender. He probably ceased being a boy many, many years ago.

This young man has been arrested 10 times in two years and is accused of conducting multiple burglaries in Ewa Beach and in Pearl City. My home and my neighbor's home have been broken into twice. Each time there was no physical evidence, only circumstantial evidence, left by the perpetrators to prove who may have been responsible. I find it quite interesting that this type of criminal activity seems to have stopped in our neighborhood since his detainment.

Our legislators should consider a "three strikes" rule for youthful offenders. A third offense should automatically qualify the person as an adult offender. If this young man is found guilty for the crimes he is accused of, it seems a crime in itself to allow him back out to prey again on our neighborhood in four very short years.

I've heard a lot of conjecture about how the system failed him. In my opinion, the only people who failed here are the young man himself and his parents. Now it is time for the judicial system to take action.

Global warming is new religion of the left

The far right has tried to implement social politics that reflect Jesus Christ is coming. But they have been saying that for 2000 years!

The new religion of the left is professing global warming and we should now live our lives accordingly to the new doctrine of climate change, yet they cannot even predict the weather accurately five days in advance. Where does that leave me? Disgusted!

Take your hands off my internal combustion engine and my cigarettes. I want to be free!
