30th Na Hoku awards to take place at convention center

The Na Hoku Awards turn 30 tomorrow when the Hawai'i Academy of Recording Arts presents the 2007 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards Show at the Hawaii Convention Center. Awards will be presented in 24 categories, including two adjudicated Hawaiian-language awards, and one, Favorite Entertainer, determined by public vote.

» On stage: 5 p.m. tomorrow, Hawaii Convention Center. Tickets are $125, including dinner. Call 593-9424.

» On the air: 7:30 p.m. tomorrow on KHNL/ NBC and radio station KUMU-FM

Albums by Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom, Na Palapalai and Keali'i Reichel lead the field with seven finalist nominations each. Gilliom and Na Palapalai are finalists for Album of the Year and Hawaiian Album of the Year, while Reichel is a finalist for Male Vocalist and Christmas Album of the Year. Albums by Henry Kapono, Kaukahi and Barefoot Natives are also up for awards in several categories.

Recipients of the Ki Ho'alu Award and Moe Keale "Aloha Is" Award will also be announced. Video clips of the 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award winners -- Gabe Baltazar, Loyal Garner, Rene Paulo, the Society of Seven and the Surfers -- first seen at that awards show in March, will be rebroadcast during the show.
