Kona executive to direct nonprofit group
Guy Toyama of Kona is the new executive director of the Friends of the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority (NELHA) at Keahole Point, a nonprofit volunteer group that promotes education and outreach programs. Toyama, a Maui native, is president of the Big Island chapter of the Hawaii Food Manufacturing Association and a board member of the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce.

Cadet David Song, a Hawaii Pacific University graduate, was commissioned a second lieutenant May 17 by Defense Secretary Robert Gates at the White House. Song, representing the Army ROTC program in Hawaii, was one of 55 ROTC cadets and midshipmen from across the nation to be honored at the ceremony.

The Pacific Club named Joanna Sablan-Yuen its new membership director. She was formerly the club's catering and communications manager.

The Aging and Disability Resource Center in Hilo was recognized as the 2007 Choices for Independence Program Champion by the U.S. Administration on Aging. The award was part of a national and state celebration of Older American's Month in May. The Hawaii pilot program was selected for enacting principles of modernizing health and long-term care for the disabled and elderly.
