Doctor to discuss meditation
The integration of meditation and mind training into health care will be the topic of free lectures this month at the Kailua Shambhala Meditation Center.
Dr. Dean Nelson, a physician and Buddhist practitioner, will present perspectives from his book "Brilliant and Luminous Health: Ancient Teachings on Healthcare from the Kingdom of Shambhala."
The classes will be at 10 a.m. May 13, 20 and 27. The meditation center is at the Aikahi Shopping Center, 25 Kaneohe Bay Drive, Suite 205. No registration is required.

Variety shows in Hymn Fest
"Make a Joyful Noise" is the theme of Kawaiahao Church's annual Hymn Fest at 5 p.m. next Saturday at 957 Punchbowl St.
The free concert will offer a broad spectrum of classic choral, Hawaiian, gospel and Christian rock and hip-hop versions of sacred music. Performing will be the choirs and bell choirs from the church and Hawaiian Mission Academy and elementary schools, Kawaiolaonapukanileo Vocal Ensemble, jazz vocalist Star Williams and trombonist Duane Hilliard. Also performing will be Halau Hula O Kawaiahao and the Samoan Gospel Heralds. It will be coordinated and directed by Buddy Naluai and James Wood.
