RAINBOW BASEBALL
Vulcans no match for ’Bows
HILO » Ian Harrington delivered the quality start the Hawaii baseball team had been searching for, allowing just one hit over eight innings in leading the Rainbows to a 10-1 win over UH-Hilo last night at Wong Stadium.

Harrington, a senior left-hander, struck out seven, retired 19 of the first 20 batters he faced and held the Vulcans without a hit through 6 1/3 innings.
Nicholas Rhodes gave up two singles in the ninth before closing out the win for the Rainbows (29-19).
"(Harrington) was very sharp, he was in control, the whole game he kept his pitches down," UH coach Mike Trapasso said. "It didn't really matter who he was pitching against tonight, the way he was throwing he would have gotten a similar result because he really had his stuff."
Vinnie Catricala and Justin Frash hit solo home runs and Jonathan Hee had two doubles to highlight a 15-hit attack as the Rainbows won their 11th straight in the long-running series with the Vulcans (12-33-1).
After going 1-3 on a road trip to Arizona State and New Mexico State last week, Trapasso gave the team two days to recuperate and the 'Bows got back on track against their in-state rival.
"It was really a very complete game for us overall from start to finish, offensively and defensively and obviously pitching," Trapasso said. "We play like that and we can have some fun the rest of the way."
Harrington breezed through the first six innings, the lone baserunner coming in the third when Vulcan shortstop Shane Kessel reached on a wild pitch on a swinging third strike.
Harrington then retired 11 consecutive batters before giving up back-to-back walks with one out in the seventh with UH up 9-0. Vulcan catcher Ryan Taiariol then broke up the no-hitter with a single to right and Dayne Ogawa erased the shutout with a sacrifice fly.
Joe Davis (2-8) took the loss for the Vulcans.
The series continues at 3 p.m. today with Matt Daly (4-1) scheduled to start for the Rainbows against Clayton Uyechi (2-2). The finale of the series, and the Vulcans' season, is set for tomorrow at noon.
