Fifteen-month-old Emily Nicholson paused for a moment to stare into the camera yesterday while being carried by her father, Peter Nicholson, during the annual I Love Kailua block party on Kailua Road. Live music and food vendors were just some of the highlights, along with friends, family and sunshine.

The Keiki Water Fest was held Saturday at Hawaii's Plantation Village in Waipahu. The purpose of the event was to help students, their teachers and families recognize the importance of clean water in their daily lives. Abby Resulta, left, Chanelle Dela Cruz and Liz Campos looked at a large bullfrog that was part of an exhibit by the state Department of Land and Natural Resources showing the non-native species found in our streams and lakes. The girls, students from Moanalua High School, were volunteers at the Water Fest.
