Maui soldier moved to act after 9/11

Army Pfc. Jay Salcedo Cajimat, killed by a car bomb in Iraq on April 6, will be remembered during visitations Friday and Saturday at Ballard Family Mortuary on Maui.

Cajimat, 20, assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division out of Fort Riley, Kan., was born in Manila and raised in Lahaina.

He joined the Army -- something his mother said he wanted to do after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks -- after graduating from Lahainaluna High School in 2005.

He is survived by parents Dionie and Lilibeth; sisters Kaya, LC and LJ; and grandparents Gabriel and Adelaida Salcedo and Caroline Cajimat.

Visitation will be 3 to 9 p.m. Friday and 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Ballard Family Mortuary. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. at Maui Veterans Cemetery. Luncheon will follow at Baldwin Park. Flowers are welcome.
