Car crushes man
The 64-year-old tried to stop the sedan as it rolled backward
A 64-year-old man died yesterday afternoon after his car pinned him against a Kalani Valley house.
Police said the car, a silver 2007 four-door Mercedes-Benz, apparently was not put into park and started rolling backward down the driveway.
The man tried to stop the car and was crushed by the driver's-side door against the house, traffic investigators said. He died at the scene.
A woman called police dispatch at 2:13 p.m. and reported her husband was dying between the car and the house at 1414 Kalaniiki St.
An investigator with the Medical Examiner's Office said the man was 64 years old and did not live at the house.
After police and the Medical Examiner's Office completed their on-scene investigation, firefighters assisted by pushing the car to free the body, about three hours after the accident was reported.
Neighbors said the man was a contractor who was divorced or separated from the woman who lived at the home.
