Kahele makes his debut as a director with "Kamau," and Steele gives a powerful performance as a Hawaiian resisting eviction from his ancestral home in Aipo's nuanced look at the human cost of "development" in Hawaii. Pilioha -- Glenn Mayeda Jr., left, Kamuela Kimokeo and Kalehua Krug Jr. -- celebrated the release of their self-titled album with an afternoon party Saturday at the UH-Manoa Hawaiian Studies Department. The trio entertained for almost an hour, several guests joined in the music-making and the record label provided so much ono Hawaiian food that guests were invited to "make a plate" when the party ended. Scenic designer Justin DeLand, left, joined director Peter Ruocco on the set Friday after the opening of "In the Heart of America" in the UH-Manoa Earle Ernst Lab Theatre. DeLand's set design includes wartime newspaper headlines on white paper, red and blue lighting on the backdrop, and illuminated pukas that suggest the fires of war burning through the paper.
