T-shirts cut from artistic cloth
If there were a state costume, I'm sorry, it would not be the muumuu or aloha shirt, but T-shirt and jeans. So ubiquitous is the T-shirt that it's hard to feel original when you know there are probably a thousand other people wearing the same design.
Not so with the T-shirts available during the Antonio Greco exhibition at Balcony Gallery, 442A Uluniu St. The show opens with a 1-to-5 p.m. reception Sunday and runs through May 9.
In addition to artwork by the Italian artist, there will be collaborative clothing and mixed media jewelry created by Greco, his wife Michéle Lilley and Maya von Geldern, incorporating pieces of Greco's art. For the price of what a mass-produced shirt costs these days, from about $65 to $80, you can get a shirt that's a one-of-a-kind piece of art instead.
The jewelry, priced from $40 to $100, uses old rosaries, old charms that Greco collected over the years, plus glass beads and charms made to frame his artwork. Call 263-4434.
