Oscar winner to sign book
Former Hawaii resident Dean Pitchford has an Oscar for co-writing the title song from the 1980 movie "Fame." He also wrote the screenplay for Kevin Bacon's 1984 hit film "Footloose," and his songs have sold more than 70 million records.
Now he's written a young-adult novel, "The Big One-Oh," published by Putnam's Penguin Young Reader Group, about a lonely boy who throws his own 10th-birthday party with the theme of "House of Horrors."
Pitchford will be in Hawaii to sign his book: 7 p.m. Friday at Barnes & Noble, Kahala Mall; noon Saturday at Borders Pearlridge; 4 p.m. Saturday at Borders Waikele; 2 p.m. Sunday at Borders Ward Centre; and 12:30 p.m. next Tuesday at Bestsellers, 1001 Bishop St.
