Two separate fundraisers will be held for family members of Deputy Sheriff Daniel Browne-Sanchez, who was fatally shot while attempting to subdue a gunman at a Kapiolani Boulevard restaurant and bar in a robbery attempt.

Osake Sushi Bar and Lounge, 1700 Kapiolani Blvd., where Browne-Sanchez was employed as a bar back, will hold a fundraiser from 4 to 10 p.m. Sunday.

John Koa Lorenzo Jr., 32, was indicted Wednesday on multiple offenses, including first-degree attempted murder and second-degree murder, in the shooting and is being held in lieu of $5 million bail.

A portion of all proceeds will be donated to family members of Browne-Sanchez to help with funeral costs.

Donations may also be mailed to the Daniel Browne-Sanchez Fund, 1700 Kapiolani Blvd., Honolulu, HI 96814, or to any Bank of Hawaii branch.

The Sheriff's Division of the Department of Public Safety will also hold a fundraiser for Browne-Sanchez's family members at Pipeline Cafe, 805 Pohukaina St., from 5 to 10 p.m. Feb. 23. Cost is $20 per person.

Bands will provide entertainment. All proceeds will help family members with medical and funeral costs.

Individuals can purchase tickets at the door or purchase advance tickets from Lina Aipopo, who can be reached at 387-9515.
