Chicks rule!

Dixie Chicks lead in Grammy honors with five wins

Grammy award voters welcomed the renegade Dixie Chicks back to the fold last night -- giving the country trio a leading five awards, including record and song of the year for "Not Ready to Make Nice." The song was their pointed retort to those who sent them hate mail and boycotted their songs on country radio after singer Natalie Maines' criticized President Bush's foray into Iraq at a 2003 London concert.

R&B diva's Mary J. Blige -- whose latest album is called "The Breakthrough" -- did just that by winning three awards last night in the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Long a fan and critic favorite, Blige got the love and honors she deserved from the voters of the Recording Industry Association of America, taking home best R&B album of the year, and best female R&B performance and R&B song for the track "Be Without You."

Jonny Lang, who performs in Hawaii this weekend, took the award for best rock or rap gospel album.

Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse, aka Gnarls Barkley, were given credit for their monster hit "Crazy" with Grammys for urban/alternative performance, and their "St. Elsewhere" album took the alternative music album accolade.

Former "American Idol" contestant Carrie Underwood got the new artist Grammy, and her "Jesus, Take the Wheel" won in the country song category.

Fiery blues guitarist Jonny Lang, who will play a couple of Hawaii dates later this week, won a Grammy for his "Turn Around" album in the category, of all things, of rock and rap gospel album.

And, no surprise, this year makes it three in a row that a slack-key album took the Hawaiian music album Grammy, this time "Legends of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar -- Live From Maui."
