Tibetan lama to hold workshop on death

What does the mind experience during the dying process?

How can we die without fear, in a state of calm awareness?

Answers to these questions have been sought extensively by the Buddhist masters of Tibet, who have investigated death and dying for hundreds of years, according to a release.

Tulku Orgyen Zangpo Rinpoche, a reincarnated Tibetan Buddhist lama, will teach "Dying Into Grace" Jan. 13 and 14 at the Kailua Shambala Center. The session will be held from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Aikahi Park Shopping Center, upstairs above the theater, at 25 Kaneohe Bay Drive, Suite 205.

A suggested donation is $100 to $150 for the weekend, or $60 for one day. Call 638-9091 for more information.

Rinpoche will explain ways to prepare for our own deaths, as well as help others with the dying process and beyond, regardless of philosophical or religious orientation.

Organist and choir to perform Jan. 7

An organ recital and choral evensong will be held at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 7 at St. Andrew's Cathedral, on the corner of Beretania and Queen Emma streets.

The event offers "the sacred sounds of a traditional English choir in a gothic cathedral setting," according to a release. The music of Pachelbel, Brahms and Vierne, performed by organist Dr. Arlan Sunnarborg, and the choral music of Mendelssohn and Rutter are scheduled. A calabash offering will be taken.

The event is free and held on the first Sunday of each month from September through May featuring different music. Call 524-2822, ext. 223.
