'Splendid Table' columnist to hold isle presentations next month
Got a question about food? How to cook it, how to eat it, where to find it? Chances are Lynne Rosetto Kasper knows the answer. The host of the weekly public radio program "Splendid Table" brings her wit and wisdom on all things edible to a Jan. 14 presentation at the Halekulani.
Kasper's topic will be Northern Italian cooking and she'll reflect on 500 years of culinary traditions. Cost is $75 for the 4 to 6 p.m. event, which includes Kasper's presentation, a food-and-wine reception and a copy of her book, "The Splendid Table: Recipes from Emilia-Romagna, the Heartland of Northern Italian Food."
Kasper spent 10 years researching the region of Emilia-Romagna, known for three of Italy's soul foods: Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, Prosciutto di Parma and true balsamic vinegar. Call 931-5040.
Kasper will also present an invitation-only program -- "Tomatoes 101: Destiny in a Bowl" -- for culinary students and professionals Jan. 16 at Kapiolani Community College. And she'll tape a segment of her radio show during her visit.
"Splendid Table" airs at 9 a.m. Saturdays on KIPO-FM, 89.3, and Kasper's column of the same name runs in the Star-Bulletin's Today section every Sunday.
