Carvalho an All-American for Portland State

Brennan Carvalho, a 6-foot-1, 310-pound offensive lineman for the Portland State Vikings, was named to the Associated Press NCAA Division I-AA All-America first team yesterday.

It was Carvalho's second honor of the week, The junior from Kapaa was named to the Walter Camp I-AA All-America team last Friday.

Carvalho (Kamehameha '04) is a three-year starter for the Vikings at left guard. He has been named first team All-Big Sky Conference the past two seasons.

» Keone Tawata, a 5-11, 200-pound safety for Linfield, has been named to the D3football.com All-West Region second team. A junior, he is a Radford graduate.

No. 14 BYUH loses to No. 16 Seattle

Brigham Young-Hawaii made a strong surge to open the second half Tuesday night and even seized a late lead, but could not hold off Seattle in a matchup of nationally-ranked teams at Laie. No. 16 Seattle beat the No. 14 Seasiders 76-65 in NCAA Division II men's basketball play. The Seasiders missed their last six shots, all 3s.

Wu Tai-Hao led BYUH with 20 points. The Seasiders play Harding (Ariz.) University Dec. 19 at Kaiser High School. BYUH is now 6-2 on the season.
