"Let's Make Desserts" by Punahele Svedsen (Kamehameha Schools Press)

High school sophomore Punahele Svedsen wrote and illustrated "Let's Make Dessert!" a collection of luau recipes simple enough for kids. Punahele is a student at the Kanu o ka Aina New Century Public Charter School, a bilingual school in Waimea on the Big Island. Each recipe is illustrated with one of her earth-toned drawings. And all the recipes -- for kulolo (coconut-taro dessert), haupia (coconut pudding) , paipai'e'e (breadfruit in coconut milk) and poe (bananas and lime juice) are printed in Hawaiian, as well as English.

The book is available at local bookstores and at the Kamehameha Schools campus store, or order online at publishing.ksbe.edu.
