Fort Lewis beats tired Vulcans, 80-59
Rashad Bilal and Michael Martin scored 17 points each, but visiting Fort Lewis College held Hawaii-Hilo to six baskets in the second half, beating the Vulcans 80-59.
"They got off to a real quick start," UH-Hilo coach Jeff Law said. "They came out and hit three 3s right off the bat and bam -- now you're fighting an uphill battle."
Fort Lewis started the game on a 17-5 run before Martin's basket pulled the Vulcans to within one, 22-21.
"Then boom, we miss a couple of key opportunities. They come down and hit a big one. Next thing you know you're down again and you really can't get over it," Law said.
Devon Manning led four Fort Lewis players in double figures with 17 points.
UH-Hilo falls to 2-3 on the year.
"We looked like a team that played three games in a row," Law said.
