Honolulu doctor will receive award for AIDS work
Honolulu family physician Dr. Cyril Goshima, who has specialized in treatment of HIV/AIDS patients since the epidemic began here, will be honored for his work at a World AIDS Day service at 6 p.m. Friday at Church of the Crossroads.
He will receive the third annual Suzanne Richmond-Crum Award, presented annually by the state Health Department's STD/AIDS Prevention Branch to an individual for "outstanding contribution providing HIV/AIDS services in Hawaii."
Richmond-Crum died in August 2004 after directing the Hawaii Seropositivity and Medical Management Program in the branch for more than 10 years. Previous recipients of the award were Jaimie Kahale (2004) and John Manion (2005).
The evening service also will include a presentation of the state Department of Education's 20-minute documentary film "HIV in Hawaii: Local People, Local Stories," a display of AIDS Memorial Quilt panels and reading of the official World AIDS Day proclamation.
