Isles helped break Lewis telethon record

Hawaii viewers donated $350,031 to the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon on Labor Day, the Muscular Dystrophy Association of America says. The annual nationwide benefit raised a record $61 million to fight the various hereditary muscle-destroying disorders that include amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, and motor neuron diseases. The telethons have raised $1.4 billion since 1966.

This play is going to the dogs

Yes, Army Community Theatre is looking for kids who can belt out "Tomorrow," but director Brad Powell is also looking for a dog that can belt out a solid "ruff!" Auditions for "Annie" take place Monday to Wednesday at Richardson Theatre, Fort Shafter. Along with dogs and kids, a ventriloquist with a Charlie McCarthy-ish dummy is needed. The play runs Nov. 16 to Dec. 2. Shari Lynn will star as Miss Hannigan. Call 438-4480.

Fiore trunk show

Adasa will be hosting an Isabella Fiore Handbag Trunk Show at its Kailua store from 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow.

The show will feature new designs for fall, including a "Pirate" bag inspired by "The Pirates of the Caribbean." Attendees will have the opportunity to meet Isabella Fiore sales executive Liz Dolan while sampling champagne and "handbag" cookies.

Etro Day at NM

Neiman Marcus is stretching Etro Day to three days. Meet Etro representative Kimberly Clark and view the fall 2006 Etro collection today and tomorrow in Men's Sportswear, Level Three, and Designer Sportswear, Level Two. There will also be informal modeling from noon to 2 p.m. Sept. 15.

Also going on: An Awake Makeup Event will take place tomorrow and Saturday with consultants offering updates on skin care and makeup products from Awake, in Cosmetics, Level One. You can't miss it with the Beauty Event going on. (See today's story.)

Shop Women's Expo

The fourth annual Hawaii Woman Expo, themed "Spirit, Wellness, Style," will take place 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall, allowing the opportunity to shop 200 booths of merchandise and services.

Among the highlights will be a parade of fashion featuring designs by Hawaiian Moon (1 p.m. Saturday and 1:15 p.m. Sunday) and the University of Hawaii Apparel, Product Design and Merchandising Department (3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday). Hugo Higa of the Aesthetic Vision Center talks about "Advances in Facial Rejuvenation" at noon Sunday.

How old is your shirt?

Meet Dale Hope, author of "The Aloha Shirt: Spirit of the Islands," during a free program taking place at 6:30 p.m. today at Kailua Public Library.

Hope, creative director of Patagonia and an authority on Hawaii apparel, will bring an old aloha shirt for a 45-minute show-and-tell under the library's Reading Tree.

The person wearing the best/oldest aloha shirt will receive a copy of his book. Others may purchase the book on site prior to a book-signing session. Call 266-9911.

'Moonlighting'
