Seasiders' Peters is PacWest player of week

Brigham Young-Hawaii junior outside hitter Tuli Peters was picked as the volleyball player of the week by the Pacific West Conference yesterday.

Peters , a Kahuku graduate, averaged 6.42 kills per game and hit .329 as the Seasiders swept four matches in straight games in the Hawaiian Style Classic last week. She had 23 kills against Findlay and 24 vs. Western New Mexico, and she was the tournament's MVP.

» Hawaii associate men's volleyball coach Tino Reyes coached the U.S. Boys Youth National Team to a second-place finish in the NORCECA Continental Championship in the under-19 division on Sunday in the Dominican Republic.

The team has two Hawaii players, Erik Shoji of Punahou and Brad Lawson of Iolani.

Soares, Meneses qualify for ESPN challenge

Abel Soares and Sergio Meneses won gross honors in the ESPN National Golf Challenge regional qualifier at Turtle Bay's Arnold Palmer course on Sunday. They shot a better-ball 8-under 63 to qualify for the national finals in Las Vegas, Nov. 13-14.

William Paik and Dennis Lee won the net division with a 61 and also made the nationals.
