Hall, Leed sing with DNA at E&O, ‘Five-0’ duo enjoys

Anita Hall and Melveen Leed, easily two of the best singers in town, were guest performers with Manoa DNA at E&O Trading Company Thursday. "Hawaii Five-0" regulars Al Harrington and Jimmy MacArthur, along with Jimmy's golf pro wife H.B., were among Cal and Terri Lui's dozen guests. Kimo Kahoano opened the guest segment, saying there was no way he was going to follow Melveen and Anita. Melveen sang "Hiilawe" and danced hula to it as well after playing uke with the band and singing. Melveen said when she filmed a "Five-0" episode in Chinatown near Club Hubba Hubba, she was walking near a film trailer and a guy thought she was a hooker and "tried to hustle me." I told her fiancé Al Dacascos, a kung fu great, that some 30 years ago Melveen sang at my wedding and Al replied, "She'll sing at mine, too." Anita tore the place apart with a rocking "Johnny B. Good," with solid keyboard work by Mark Tanouye. Lloyd Kawakami and sons Nick and Alex, along with bassist Ron Quong, are other band members. Among music lovers packing the place were: Gary Kondo, Carol Lin, former Gov. John Waihee, Manny Rezentes, former Sen. Francis Wong, Margaret Kamahele and Bert Dohmen ...
