Zanzabar beefs up Friday party

AS Honolulu hits the home stretch of summer, another nightclub in the Waikiki Trade Center has made changes to its weekly Friday promotion.

I've already told you about what's going on at Fashion 45, and how Kurious Productions stepped up to add the first and third Fridays of each month to their weekly presence on Saturdays. Now comes word that Zanzabar has tweaked its Friday party, now called "The Good Life."

Single-named promoters JayTee and Jay-O have been brought in to promote the night, building on their recent success with Thursdays at Skybox. They're also tied in with the crew that does "Blessed Fridays" at Deep Blue, offering free admission to anyone arriving with a hand stamp from that party.

If you're into the Japanese tourist crowd or just like to pound chilled Crown with shoyu bunnies, the Waikiki Trade Center just might be your new hot spot on Fridays ...

SPEAKING OF Deep Blue, all you wannabe models out there should visit Waikiki this weekend, when 808lingerieshop.com presents its second annual "Sensual Bliss" workshop.

The event starts at 11 a.m. Saturday, with $30 getting you access and a choice of lingerie, swimwear or club-wear. Four different "scenes" will be photographed throughout the afternoon, on top of shots taken at the beach nearby.

An after-party is also planned once all the "work" is pau. Call 949-2945 to register ...

THE BIGGEST concert this weekend has to be the annual KCCN FM-100 "Birthday Bash," but there are alternatives if you're not into crowds or that type of music.

If you'd rather rock out, head to Red Lion University for a "Rock from the Rock" tune-up gig with The Crud, Missing Dave and Pimpbot. The three bands plan to tour the mainland later this year.

On Saturday, Don Ho's Island Grill will host San Francisco's One Groove just hours after they get off stage at the Waikiki Shell. It's a good bet you won't have to share the Aloha Tower Marketplace restaurant with 8,000 other screaming fans -- and that's a good thing. They'll be joined by Ka'ena, Nomasterbacks and DJ Galmiche ...

THE LAST weekend of July brings with it a bunch of monthly parties: "I-Bar" is at Sarrento's tomorrow, "WormWood" returns to Detox on Saturday, Russell Tanoue adopts a beach theme at "The Piranha Room" on Saturday at the Ocean Club, and "Zummanity" takes on the '70s at Fashion 45 ...

IT'S THAT time of year once again -- my birthday is coming up, which means it's time for a vacation. "In the Mix" will return Aug. 10 ...
