Quench your thirst for sake

Whether your sake strategy is to savor each sip or to hold out your cup and ask for more, the Joy of Sake taste-a-thon should quench your thirst.

The annual event, billed as the largest sake tasting outside of Japan, takes place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. July 27 at the Hawai'i Convention Center, which should provide plenty of space for the more than 200 junmai, ginjo and daiginjo offerings (if you're not up on the sake lingo, these are sake categories).

Served with them will be sakana from restaurants including Hokke, Kyo-ya L'Uraku and Tavola Tavola. (If you're not up on the lingo, sakana are appetizers particularly suited to sake.)

Tickets are $65. Call 739-1000 or visit www.joyofsake.com.
