Club-goers party for the final time at the Wave Waikiki

The Wave Waikiki, Honolulu's oldest free-standing nightclub under original ownership at its original location, closed for the last time this morning, bringing its 25-year history to an end. The club was already busy with patrons shortly after opening last night at 9 p.m. A condominium complex will be built on the site of the club, which had been operating on a month-by-month lease since 2003.

The girls from Hula Hui O Kapunahala have a hula performance today at McKinley High School Auditorium at 1:30 p.m., but they were preparing as far back as Friday. Nami Okumura, left, and Abcidy Tagaca-Meria had a good time as they wove ti leaf skirts.

The courage and dedication of firefighters are captured in this newly installed statue, seen Friday, next to the Honolulu Fire Department Headquarters on the corner of Queen and South streets. The man and woman who modeled for the statue are on active duty in the fire department.
