San Francisco shreds UH for 21 hits, 15 runs
The 'Bows put the loss behind them and look ahead to three games against San Jose State
From staff and wire reports
SAN FRANCISCO » There was nothing pretty at all about Hawaii's baseball game yesterday.
San Francisco, which won its first West Coast Conference championship Sunday, ripped seven Rainbow pitchers for 21 hits en route to a 15-1 victory at Benedetti Diamond.

A harbinger of the way the nonconference game might -- and did -- go for the 29th-ranked Rainbows (37-13) came in the second when Luis Avila tripled to start the inning. The next three UH batters could not get the ball out of the infield, stranding Avila at third.
"It is our worst effort of the year," said UH coach Mike Trapasso, his team snapping an eight-game winning streak. "We were passionless and got our ass kicked. We deserved to, because of the way we came in and did our business.
"Nothing good comes from a game like this."
It was the most lopsided loss for Hawaii since losing to Fresno State 24-9 in 1998.
The Dons (37-19) scored single runs in the first three innings, knocking UH starter Mark Rodrigues out after he surrendered a leadoff double to Scott Cousins in the third. Cousins eventually scored on a fielder's choice for a 3-0 USF lead.
The one peep from the UH offense came in the fourth. Justin Frash singled to center with one out and scored on Avila's double off the center-field fence. The Rainbows got just one more hit the remainder of the game, a pinch-hit single by Kris Sanchez in the eighth.
The Dons batted around and took a commanding lead with a five-run fourth.
Lucas DeLong beat out an infield single to third to start the inning. He was sacrificed to second by Zach Kim and moved to third on a groundout. Tyler Davis walked Andrew Smith and was replaced by Ian Harrington on the mound.
Harrington, scheduled to start Sunday's game at San Jose State, did not retire any of the four batters he faced. He hit Cousins with a 1-2 pitch to load the bases. Stefan Gartrell then cleared the bases with a triple to center.
Pinch hitter Luke Sommer followed with a triple to right-center field, scoring Gartrell. Sommer came home on a double to left-center by Daniel Morales to give USF an 8-1 lead.
The Dons added two runs in the sixth and had another five-run outburst in the seventh inning.
The only Rainbows pitcher to escape unscathed was Darrell Fisherbaugh, who fanned Gartrell to end the eighth inning with the 192nd pitch thrown by the UH staff.
"The best thing we can do is forget about this game and try to do better against San Jose State," Trapasso said. "The important games on this trip are this weekend."
The Rainbows and Spartans start their three-game Western Athletic Conference series Friday night. Steven Wright will be on the mound for Hawaii.
