Calgary releases Hawaii's Gesser

The Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League released backup quarterback Jason Gesser last week, according to the Calgary Sun.

Gesser, a Saint Louis School alumnus, completed 23 of 42 passes for 356 yards, with four TDs and five interceptions, last year.

Gesser, a Washington State standout, also played briefly for the Tennessee Titans.

Hawaii-Hilo get 2 softball commitments

Hawaii-Hilo added two softball recruits over the weekend -- Pearl City infielder Kanani Numata and utility player Tonya Hickok of Fairfield, Calif.

Numata batted .328 for the Chargers this year, and Hickok hit at a .368 clip during her high school career.

Hayashi leads Hawaiian Telcom tournament

Kevin Hayashi shot a 1-over 74 yesterday to take the lead at the 16th annual Hawaiian Telcom Hall of Fame Championship golf tournament at Kapalua Resort.

Hayashi has a two-stroke lead over John Freitas and Andrew Feldman. Larry Stubblefield and David Ishii are three strokes behind Hayashi.

Ron Kiaaina Jr. shot a 2-under 71 to take a two-shot lead over Milne Dugal in the Senior Division. Larry Harris leads the Super Senior Division after a 9-over 82.
