Colorful aloha shirts deemed improper for a mob boss

tony gets no aloha: In tomorrow's Parade insert, carried on Sundays by the Star-Bulletin, the print shirts worn by James Gandolfini in "The Sopranos" are a topic in Walter Scott's Personality Parade. Costumer Juliet Polcsa selects the shirts for Gandolfini, who plays mob boss Tony Soprano. But she doesn't pick Hawaiian aloha shirts with colorful prints or flowers for Tony because, she says, "They don't seem very bosslike" ...

That Tea at the Halekulani May 7, from 1 to 5 p.m., to benefit Red Cross, will offer more than tea and cookies for guests. Chanel's Tia Gaurani says there will be a menu prepared by La Mer Chef Yves Garnier. Models in Chanel's ready-to-wear collection are also on the menu. Kaanapali Golf Courses' annual Bash 'N Scramble employees' tourney raised $4,208 for Lahainaluna High's football and golf programs. Lahainaluna's gridders and golfers worked the tournament. Head Kaanapali pro Scott Ashworth presented the check to Lahainaluna Athletic Director Joe Balangitao Jr. Joe's dad was a fast, shifty halfback for Baldwin High in the late 1940s and later for UH in the early 1950s. "He's still going strong," Joe Jr. said this week. Junior played quarterback for Baldwin and was the team's head football coach from 1990 to 1999. He played wide receiver for Central Washington and is a former special education teacher ...

Betty Shimabukuro's great recipes book is cookin'

"By Request," the book by Star-Bulletin Features Editor Betty Shimabukuro about the search for Hawaii's greatest recipes, has drawn much interest. Betty has received word from Mutual Publishing that 2,500 copies of the book were sold before the release date. Those books went for $10. Hungry islanders wanting to test the great recipes will have to buy the book in book stores, priced at $13.95. One section features stories and recipes from five celebrity chefs: Hiroshi Fukui of Eurasion Tapas, Colin Nishida of Side Street Inn, Chai Chaowasaree of Chai's Island Bistro, Thomas Ky of Assaggio and Jackie Lau of Roy's Restaurants. Yum! ...
