Hawaiian songs, classical sacred music and popular hymns will be featured as Oahu churches become concert halls for musical events in the coming weeks.

» Tomorrow, 7 p.m. Popular Hawaiian singer Genoa Keawe will be the headliner on a musical program at the Honolulu Tabernacle of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A combined choir of 200 people will perform music celebrating the family. John Monahan will read from the "Proclamation of the Family," by LDS Church President Gordon Hinckley. The event at 1560 S. » Friday, 7 p.m. Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Wahiawa will be the scene of the performance of an Easter cantata, "The Passion of His Love," by composers Tom Fettke and Randy Vader. The North Shore Ohana I Ke Akua Choir will join the combined church choirs, conducted by Eileen Hirota in the free concert at 1403-A California Ave.

» Next Saturday, 7 p.m. In the spirit of Lei Day, the Hawaii Ecumenical Chorale will present "He'Alana I Ke Akua" -- "a floral offering to God" -- at Harris United Methodist Church, 20 S. Vineyard Blvd. Concertgoers are invited to wear vintage Hawaiian wear, leis and flowers. The trio of George Kuo, Martin Paahinui and Aaron Mahi, and Robert Cazimero's Halau Na Kamalei will be featured. The Harris church choir and Kamehameha Alumni Glee Club will join the massed chorale. A voluntary donation will be accepted to finance future concerts.

» May 7, 4 p.m. The Lutheran Church of Honolulu will present an all-Bach concert, the last of the season's series, "A Bach Pilgrimage III." Carl Crosier will conduct the church choir and Bach Chamber Orchestra in works from the composer's Weimar years. The concert at 1730 Punahou St. will benefit the Institute for Human Services. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 for seniors and $10 for full-time students. They are available at the door or may be reserved by calling the church office, 941-2566.

» May 7, 7 p.m. A repeat performance of the cantata "The Passion of His Love" will be presented at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Wahiawa.

» May 7, 7:30 p.m. The St. Andrew's Cathedral festival sing-along concert, "The Joy of Music," will feature favorite hymns and patriotic songs. "He Mele Lahui Hawaii," composed by Queen Liliuokalani as the original Hawaii national anthem, will be performed by the choir, orchestra and organist Arlan Sunnarborg. It will be the last monthly evensong until Sept. 3. A reception will follow the free concert in the church at Queen Emma Square.

» May 21, 4 p.m. St. John Vianney Church, 920 Keolu Drive, Kailua, will be the setting for a repeat of the Hawaii Ecumenical Chorale "He'Alana I Ke Akua" program with the Kamehameha Alumni Glee Club, Randy Hongo, Maile Loo, Aaron Mahi and other performers.
