SIS returns to former spot
THE talented ladies of
Sisters in Sound go back to their roots this weekend, with a one-time party at the recently opened Ong King in Chinatown.
It's deja vu all over again for DJs Chia, Marloca and Toki (Ms. Angel wasn't part of the crew back then). When SIS came together at the start of 2002, their first gig was at a spot called Hesham's Studio -- now known as Ong King.
Those who recognized the TreeHaus name when I mentioned it recently in this space will also remember this location, since DJ Sovern-T and friends used to utilize the same space before Hesham moved in.
On Saturday, the Sisters host "Soulshine," a BYOB event that also features vocalist Hope Atz and floral design by Jeanne P. Five bucks gets you access to the party and all the water and / or kava you can drink.
One more reason to go: SIS co-founder DJ Zita will be in town from San Francisco for this one, after a guest set at Fashion 45 tomorrow night ...
HEAD DOWN to Indigo tomorrow night for another KTUH benefit edition of the restaurant's weekly "Get Fresh!" party.
I don't think there's a specific cause that the station is trying to raise funds for this time around, but that doesn't mean some of its all-star DJs can't come together for a night of fun in the club. Along with a live performance by the NewJass Quartet, expect sets by the likes of DJs Bone, Loriel, Mano Lopez, MetaLX, Rhombus, Cookiehead Jenkins and Sifu "Jive" Walker.
Doors open at 9 p.m. for "Get Fresh!," and all college students with a valid school ID will get in for just $5. Call 956-7261 ...
LOTS TO do again tonight around town: Filipino comedian Jo Koy presents the first of two performances at the Wave Waikiki at 8 p.m. There's also the "Fil-Am Comedy Jam" at the Hawaiian Hut on Saturday, featuring Mel Cabang, Shawn Felipe and Joey Guila, hosted by Island 98.5's Lanai ... Get an early start to the Easter weekend with KCCN FM-100's "Pre-Holiday Bash" at Pipeline Cafe. Local rockers Analog and reggae band Ooklah the Moc are scheduled to perform, starting at 10 p.m. ... Ooklah also plays earlier in the evening at "Ola Na 'Iwi," an educational benefit concert at UH-Manoa's Andrews Amphitheatre. They'll be joined by Paula Fuga and the One Love Ohana Band, Kamau and Kupa'aina. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. ... And you can win the date of your dreams at the O Lounge during the "Team Hawaii Bachelor Auction." Honolulu's finest men in blue will be on the auction block, with proceeds going to the National Kidney Foundation. Forefather Entertainment presents the party, which will be hosted by former Miss Hawaii Traci Toguchi. Doors open at 6 p.m. tonight; call 589-5936 for more details ...
