Legend salutes troops May 6

HAVE ALL the recent concerts taken a toll on your bank account? Get ready for one free show that promises to be a winner.

Following in the footsteps of buddy Kanye West last weekend, Grammy Award-winning R&B vocalist John Legend headlines "A Salute to Our Troops" on May 6 at the Kapiolani Park Bandstand. The concert, scheduled to start at noon and sponsored by USO Hawaii, will follow a 9:30 a.m. parade through Waikiki in honor of all military personnel based in the islands ...

SPEAKING OF military-related shows, Bayfest is coming up on the radar, and this year's entertainment lineup is shaping up to be a good one.

While Papa Roach and Lynyrd Skynyrd drew crowds last year, I'm really looking forward to seeing Juvenile in Kaneohe on June 30 and Staind on July 2. Country fans will enjoy Chris Cagle on July 1, while Trick Pony headlines on July 3 and .38 Special on July 4 ...

Friends were also surprised to hear that Arato is getting married while he's there, to Thai model Kanjana Kongkoon. The pair have planned a second ceremony and honeymoon getaway to take place upon their arrival in Hawaii. Congrats, Alan ...

NEWS FROM around the Honolulu radio dial: The hole left by Tati Pelegreen at Island 98.5 has been filled -- Phat Joe takes over at night, with Makani and Big Teeze sliding up to middays and afternoon drive, respectively ... Former 102.7 Da Bomb afternoon jock Sam the Man is back in town after an attempt at morning drive in Philadelphia. Sources say he'll be back on the air at his old station soon ... Guess the club gigs aren't doing it for Pablo Sato. The Hot 93.9 afternoon guy was spotted in front of Koi on Kapiolani Boulevard recently, hawking "Pablo Sato's Signature Steaks" alongside the lunch wagon run by neighboring Skybox ... And as much as I've tried, I just can't get into the new low-power station Energy 101 (101.1 FM). Their signal is just too weak, and is usually overpowered by a Maui station that shares the same frequency ...
