Reichel CD helps victims

HERE'S a great way to help the Hawaii Chapter of the American Red Cross raise money to help those affected by recent flooding: buy a Keali'i Reichel CD.

The Maui-based recording artist and kumu hula has partnered with Borders Books & Music to raise $50,000 through the sales of his first album, "Kawaipunahele." For every copy sold (at just $9.99), $5 will go to the Red Cross.

Reichel's CD is available at all Borders locations statewide, and all are participating in the effort. It's a win-win situation for music lovers and local residents who need a helping hand ...

MORE SHOWS to let you know about: After killing it at the Blaisdell Concert Hall as the opening act for Jon Lovitz, comedian Jo Koy returns to Honolulu for two nights at the Wave Waikiki. Doors open at 7 p.m. on April 13 and 14, with tickets priced at $26 ($31 if you're under 21 years old) ... On Stage Hawaii presents Flogging Molly at Pipeline Cafe on May 19. Local boys Go Jimmy Go will open. Tickets are $20 and go on sale Saturday ... Also on sale Saturday are tickets for a May 31 concert by Story of the Year and As I Lay Dying at Pipeline. It's been a year since As I Lay Dying performed here -- they were at Pipes last February with opening act Push the Pedal. Tickets are $25 this time around ...

Promoters Simon Kersten and Arni Olson kicked off the biweekly party last month, and have incorporated various themes to keep things interesting. This weekend's installment will serve as a spring break kickoff, complete with bikini models.

SATURDAY promises to be a big night this weekend. Things start early in Waikiki, with 311 and Pepper playing at the Waikiki Shell ... Rather listen to some up-and-coming local rock? Head to Detox for Upstanding Youth's CD release party. The fun starts at 8 p.m. with sets by Pimpbot, Black Square, 86 List, the Crud, Hell Caminos, Temporary Lovers and Golf Cart ... Over at NextDoor, former Digable Planets member Lady Bug Mecca will be the special guest at "Chinatown Sessions" ... The party returns to Ciao Mein in the Hyatt Regency Waikiki as TantriQ Entertainment celebrates spring break with the Funkwerks crew. They're also offering free drinks and pupus before 10:30 p.m. ... And over at Fashion 45, Kurious Productions kicks off a monthly theme party called "Zummanity" this week. The debut will have a geisha theme, and ladies are asked to dress accordingly (of course). Doors open at 9 p.m. for this 21-and-over event ...
