Alice Clay cuts her hair short to aid ill kids who lost theirs

REALTOR Alice Clay, a former professional hula dancer, surprised a friend at Aaron's for dinner Sunday by showing up with her hair, normally falling to the mid-back level, cut short. It was cut at Sts. Peter and Paul Church for a good cause: the Locks of Love program that provides hair prosthetics for ill children who have lost their hair. At Aaron's, Alice was surprised to find that the general manager is Al Souza III. She used to baby-sit Al, but it was so many years ago they did not recognize each other ...

A HIGHLIGHT of my vacation last week was a dinner party in Morton's Boardroom to mark the birthdays of Charlie Beeck Jr. and Nathan Minn, and my 39th year at the Star-Bulletin. The party was organized by Mihana Souza, who sang, and Kanoe Cazimero, who danced wearing a cellophane hula skirt. Besides Mihana and Kanoe, helping make the event a rousing success were a group of Worthy Women: Myra Brandt, Andrea Kia, Daynin Dashefsky, Jany Cataldo, Nora Meijide-Gentry, Jane Stubenberg, Margaret Murchie, Maria Finazzo and Janis Clapoff ...

AT DUC'S Bistro, where Mihana performs on Thursdays, she and Kanoe were singing "Wahine Ilikea" on a recent Thursday. It is the favorite Hawaiian song of Ruth Ann Becker, who was there. Damon Estate heir Michael Haig appeared at Ruth Ann's table and danced hula to the number. Ruth Ann was blown away to see Michael doing hula and said it was the first time she had seen a man dance the song ...

MVT's fundraiser is April 8 at the Hilton

MANOA VALLEY Theatre's annual Manoa Marquee fundraiser is titled "A Little Night Music" and will be held April 8 in the Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom. "A Little Night Music" closed Sunday at MVT. The musical's Larry Paxton, Stefanie Smart, Zenia Moura and Doug Scheer will entertain at the Hilton event. The Little Big Band, with vocalist Ginai, will play dance music. Tickets are $200; call MVT at 988-6131 ...
