Local teens model dresses fit for Hawaii

Macy's and Sassy magazine teamed up to present prom fashion shows at Ala Moana Center and Pearlridge last weekend, sharing the season's trends.

Shown were several tea-length and short cocktail dresses in strapless styles, or with fitted halter or empire bodices with full, flouncy, princessy skirts. Tulle was plentiful, as well as satin ribbon ties and lace overlays.

Colors jumped from bright white and pearly peaches and creams to black softened with cascades of ruffles.

Makeup presented by M.A.C cosmetics was soft and natural with a glow emanating from a light touch of sheer shimmer blush in colors ranging from pale pink to cocoa.

Here's a look at some of the styles shown, modeled by members of Sassy's teen board:

At left, from left, Tori Morgado (Punahou, 9th grade) wears a Speechless ($68) pink dress with a V-cut neckline, layered with glitter-accented brown tulle; Esther Kim (Leilehua, 11th grade) wears a Speechless ($68) cinched-waist dress with a black jersey top, cream waistband and tulle skirt; and Shay Revuelto (Kamehameha, 7th grade) wears a B. Darlin ($88) two-tone halter dress with handkerchief hem in pink and brown tulle.

Marynell Shaw (Farrington, 11th grade) wears an XOXO ($98) ruched strapless dress of glittery gold tulle with a bead and sequin bodice embellishments.

At top: The prom-ready teens in the front row are Marynell Shaw, Shay Revuelto, Amy Yeung, Justina Mason (Leilehua, 10th grade) in a floor-length City Triangles ($88) black matte jersey halter dress, and Erika Cabatingan (Sacred Hearts, 11th grade) in a Jessica McClintock ($98) short satin cream-and-black polka-dot strapless dress with a lace waistband and tulle lining.

The event included a "Project Princess" gown drive, and 92 gently used prom dresses were donated to be given to high school girls in financial need. Gowns will be distributed by YWCA of Oahu March 24 through 26.
