WINDS WHIP ACROSS ISLANDS
JAMM AQUINO / JAQUINO@STARBULLETIN.COM
Kaneohe resident Jordan Takekawa, 17, braved the wind tunnel with her father, Clint, left, and sister Lyndsay, 14, at the Pali Lookout yesterday. A high-wind advisory was in effect for all islands, but the Big Island got the brunt of the gusty weather brought on by a passing cold front. Falling trees downed power lines, causing power failures in the Hilo and Puna areas. Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency shut down county parks in the Hilo district, and the state shut down Hapuna Beach State Park due to the winds. The National Weather Service canceled the high-wind advisory for Kauai, Oahu and Niihau at 8 p.m. yesterday. The advisory for the rest of the islands was expected to have expired last night.
