Seasiders defeat Panthers
Brigham Young-Hawaii got 21 points from Austin Smylie and 15 from Eric Boyce in a 67-61 victory over Chapman (Calif.) in college basketball last night in Laie.
The Seasiders (5-5) made 17 of 22 free throws. The Panthers (8-6) were led by Josh Flynn-Brown, who scored 17 points.
Sony events start with autographs by Stadler
An autograph session this Sunday with PGA Tour pro Craig Stadler kicks off a week of Sony Open-related activities.
Stadler, a 13-time tour winner, will be available for autographs from 4-5 p.m. at the Hilton Hawaii's Tapa Tower concourse.
Luana Hills pros Darin Sumimoto and Leland Lindsay will also give free golf tips at the hotel's Village Green from 10-11 a.m., Sunday through next Friday.
The resort also has daily and weekly tournament badges for sale at the Tapa Concourse. Round-trip shuttle service to and from Waialae Country Club will be available daily during the Jan. 12-15 tournament for a $2 one-way fee.

Freitas headlines UHH baseball fundraiser
Rockne Freitas, Hawaii Community College Chancellor and former NFL All-Pro, will be the guest speaker for the Jan. 23 fundraiser for the Hawaii-Hilo baseball team.
The event at the UHH Campus Center starts with a silent auction at 5:30 p.m. The buffet dinner is at 6:30 p.m., followed by a live auction.
The cost is $50 per person with sponsor tables of eight available for $500. Table sponsorship includes 25 Vulcans game tickets.
Proceeds help defray travel costs for the independent NCAA Division I program. For tickets and information, call the UHH baseball office at 974-7700 (Big Island).
