Flash leaves Wave, becomes a free agent
PAT yourself on the back if you thought it was a sign that
Flash Hansen planned to move his "Pussycat Lounge" party to the as-yet-unopened nightclub Fashion 45.
That sign should have read "Aloha Means Goodbye," as the Wave Waikiki promotions director will be leaving his post on Dec. 31.
"I've got to be smart about what I do and where I do it," explained Hansen. "I want to be able to do things and not have to answer to anybody."
With "Pussycat Lounge," "SKYLiNE" and "Two" in his party portfolio and even bigger events planned for 2006, it makes sense for him to work as a free agent, instead of affiliating with any one venue.
"That's the way of the past," Hansen said of promoting seven nights a week at one place. "It doesn't work like that anymore" ...
NIGHTCLUB VIP cards come and go, but I've got a feeling the new Hype VIP Card will be around for a while.
Here's how it works: Spend $150 on the card (available at Hawaii's Best Fulfillment, Sunsplash Tans, the UH-Manoa Campus Center and online at www.hypevip.com), and you'll enjoy free access to participating clubs and bars for a year.
The trick here is to affiliate with the island's hottest promoters, and the Hype VIP Card program does that. With the card you'll be able to get into parties hosted by G-Spot, Architechs Hawaii, Rick Rock Productions, Komo Low and Platinum Public.
Even if you only go out once or twice a month, this card is a fantastic deal ...
GET READY for a blast from the past -- Keith Sweat, Midnight Star and Zapp are coming to town next month.
L-Star Productions presents the Jan. 13 show, with tickets priced at $45 and $55. Pick yours up at any Ticketmaster outlet ... Keep an eye on Paula Fuga, the "American Idol" reject who performed at thirtyninehotel on Friday. This girl has a beautiful voice -- she just needs to find the right people to take her to the next level ... And whether you love him or hate him, Andrew W.K. puts on a killer live show. I saw him headline at "Punk on a Rock 6" on Saturday, and he almost got me excited enough to jump in the pit! Not ...
MY APOLOGIES to Sonia Mendoza, Dominic Monaghan, the Nocturnal Sound Krew and Emirc. A production error led to their names getting misspelled in this space last week ...
