CATCHIN' KAKAAKO
North and south swells hitting the islands
FL MORRIS / FMORRIS@STARBULLETIN.COM
A surfer looked down an emerald wall at Flies off Kakaako Waterfront Park yesterday. Surf on northwest shores was expected to reach 12 to 18 feet today, and climb to as high as 25 feet tonight and tomorrow, according to the National Weather Service. A south swell, meanwhile, was predicted to peak today with 6-foot waves. The weather service issued a high-surf advisory 3:30 p.m. yesterday. A strong storm off the coast of Japan generated the swells hitting northwest shores of all the major islands except Lanai.
