Retreat to Hilo for Ayurveda and yoga

The Ayurveda Center of Hawaii, based on Kauai, is offering a wellness retreat Oct. 1 to 7 at the Tara Retreat Center in Hilo, on the Big Island.

Ayurveda and yoga are sister sciences dating back thousands of years, helping to create a balance in body, mind and optimum health. The retreat includes seven nights accommodations; transportation to and from the Hilo Airport; three daily meals prepared by a private chef; daily group yoga; meditation sessions; an Ayurvedic consultation and a Vedic Astrological reading; an Ayurvedic (abhyanga) or deep tissue massage; discussions on Ayurveda, Yoga and Vedic philosophy; and group picnic excursions to swim with dolphins and visit the Kilauea volcano.

The cost of the retreat is $2,300 per person, based on double occupancy.

The retreat will be hosted by Darci Frankel, owner of the Ayurveda Center of Hawaii and Hanalei Day Spa, with guest facilitator Jay Kumar, a yoga therapist and spiritual counselor.

No yoga experience necessary to take part in the retreat, which allows guests to "find harmony with the rhythms of nature, eliminate stress, rediscover themselves and recharge their batteries," said Frankel, who also offers customized yoga retreat programs for individuals, couples or groups on Kauai's north shore.

For more information, call Frankel at (808)-826-1811, or toll-free 1-(800)-818-6348, e-mail darciayur@aol.com or visit the Web site www.PanchaKarma.net.

The Mini iPods are fitted with disposable headphones and pre-loaded with the resort's signature music, allowing guests to choose from a hip mix of tracks identified as "chilled," "loungey," "upbeat" and "energized," created by Activaire®, a music branding company.

At the spa, you might choose from more than 10 choices of pedicures, including chocolate-coconut and honey-sugar pedicures for keiki ages 6 through 12.

Make an appointment by calling 1-(800)-888-6100, or visit www.grandwailea.com.
