The Bloomberg / Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.
Hoku Scientific soars
Hoku Scientific Inc. soared 13.7 percent this week to highlight the performance of local companies in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index. The Kapolei-based developer of fuel-cell technology closed yesterday at $11.23 after hitting an all-time high of $12.80 on Monday.
Penny stock Mera Pharmaceuticals Inc. posted the best gain as it rose 16 percent to 2.9 cents.
Hawaiian Holdings Inc., parent of Hawaiian Airlines, brought up the rear as it fell 12.4 percent to $2.98, the first time it has been below $3 since Feb. 13, 2004, when it also closed at $2.98.
