4 take player-of-year honors on junior tour

Four Hawaii players were picked as player of the year after the final Casey Nakama Junior Tour golf tournament of the year last weekend at Pearl Country Club.

The four players are Cyd Okino in the A Flight, Jay Kishi in the B Flight, Kyle Kurihara in the C Flight and Noah Hashimoto in the D Flight.

» Norman Inouye, Troy Higashiyama and Shannon Tanoue all finished with 1-over par 141s to share medalist honors in the two-day Mayor's Cup golf tournament championship flight on Sunday at Ala Wai Golf Course.

Tadd Fujikawa was one shot back at 142.

Keith Nakamura won the A Flight with an 8-over 148. Scott Yamashita and Daniel Danielson tied for first in the B Flight with a 155, and Willie Perreira won the C Flight with a 162.

Little League Road Show to stop in Hawaii

Little League administrators will gather in Honolulu on Oct. 8 to participate in the first Little League Road Show clinic in Hawaii.

Little League Baseball and Softball staff members from the Western Regional headquarters in San Bernardino, Calif., will give the clinic, which aims at sharing services and educational materials with local leagues.

Ewa Beach, a Hawaii team, won the 59th Little League Baseball World Series in South Williamsport, Pa., last month.

10 gymnasts qualify for national testing

Ten gymnasts from the Hawaiian Island Twisters Gym in Honolulu qualified for the USA Gymnastics National Talent Opportunity Program Testing, which takes place Sept. 23-25 in Houston.

Chesarey Fujimori, Cierra Lauro, Tiare Sadarananda, Lydia Lehnert, Jasmine Padeken-Pasegan, Jenna Frowein, Jodie Kaupiko, Andrea Prohaska, Tiara Rapp and Tamara Rapp are the qualifiers.

Gymnasts selected to the TOPs national team will be invited to attend a training camp in December in Houston.
