Rainbow Wahine fall three spots to No. 9

Two losses translated to a loss of three spots for the Hawaii volleyball team in this week's CSTV/AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Poll.

The Rainbow Wahine (5-5) slipped to No. 9 yesterday, following two defeats last week against Washington. The Huskies (9-0) remained No. 2 behind top-ranked Nebraska.

The teams ranked third through fifth also stayed the same with Stanford at No. 3, followed by Penn State and Minnesota. Rounding out the Top 10 are No. 6 Florida, No. 7 Louisville, No. 8 Missouri and No. 10 Wisconsin.

Hawaii opens Western Athletic Conference play Thursday against Boise State at the Stan Sheriff Center, with home matches Friday and Saturday against Loyola Marymount.

Saturday's match follows the annual alumnae match, which is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Chaminade (8-3) went from No. 23 to No. 25 and Hawaii Pacific (10-1) fell from No. 5 to No. 8.

» Hawaii-Hilo stopped Grand Canyon 30-15, 30-22, 30-27 in a Division II volleyball match last night in Phoenix.

Rose Ramsey hit .360 and had 13 kills to lead the Vulcans (8-4).

Stephanie Yingling led the 'Lopes (5-11) with seven kills.

Mixed doubles teams advance to regionals

Five mixed doubles tennis teams from Honolulu won sectional titles in Kailua-Kona last weekend and advanced to the Western regional championships Nov. 18-20 at the Hilton Waikoloa.

No Sked Em (6.0), Hui Holomua (7.0), Ala Moana Mano (8.0), Pearl Harbor (9.0) and Bonus (10.0) won the sectional titles in competition held at the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort and the Holua Tennis Center.
